12 Easy Ways to Get Inspired (and Stay That Way!)

1.  GOAL-OLOGY 101http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photography-sun-rays-bursting-clouds-image12291067
Start every day with at least one written goal, but not more than three. Make a very big deal when you successfully accomplish each goal, and do your own version of a happy dance as you cross it off your list. Do that, and I won’t have to tell you why.

2.  BE SELF-CENTERED
If you’re going to feel inspired by having a great positive impact on the world, then your life purpose must be at the center of, and the reason for, everything you do . Yup- that includes all your words, thoughts and deeds.

 3.  MISSION CONTROL
Your mission is your plan for actualizing your life purpose, for making it come to life. Put your mission in writing.  Post it on your bathroom mirror, office wall, pantry, dashboard, garden, library, favorite couch, computer screen. And read it every time you see it!

 4.  FRIEND YOURSELF
Get yourself a couple of really great stand up kind of people who you can truly call your friend.  Not for the good times, but for the times you forget the good times, and the times you can’t tell whether you’re being courageous or you’re being stupid, and the times that you can’t remember how brilliant you are, and the times your mother, manager, spouse, enemy takes up real estate in your head and you mistakenly believe that you’re a failure.

5.  BRILLIANCE IN – BRILLIANCE OUT
Would you feed your newborn baby potato chips, comics, violent video games or junk novels? Would you punish your newborn baby for pooping, napping, eating or burping? Why not? Because it’s not good for the baby which, in essence, means it’s not good for you either.

6.  FAIL OFTEN AND FAIL HARD
We learn much more from the things we do wrong than the things we get right. If you’re not failing at something everyday then you’re not trying hard enough, using all of your potential or taking the right kind of risks. There are few things more inspiring than falling, failing and getting up and doing it right the next time.

7.  KNOW THE BEAT OF YOUR OWN DRUMMER
You know those songs that inspire you; that are capable of getting you all jazzed up, no matter what your mood is? These songs may get you excited, expand your heart, give you hope or make you want to shake your booty. Maybe they even bring a tear or two. Make a CD or audio file of a dozen of these babies and keep them handy; listen often.

8.  BE INTIMATE
You may call it meditation, gardening, running, yoga, reading, cooking, scrap-booking, walking…. Discover the activities that gets you in touch with your heart and soul, evoke your creativity and put a smile on your heart. Do one of them every single day. No excuses.

9.  ERR ON THE SIDE OF LOVE
Let’s face it, most of us move straight to self beat-up when we don’t achieve our goals, when we fall short of our expectations, or when we have inadvertent outcomes. Change your default to love. Do that today. Treat yourself as you would your toddler, ailing friend or most loved one (that would be you). In other words, be an inspiration to yourself.

10. NEVER MISS HAPPY HOUR
One hour a day read, listen to, or watch something from someone who has already accomplished the goal you set for yourself. Read the classics from the worlds greatest motivators, watch a ‘how to’ video, listen to an inspiring audiobook, etc. Work on that vision board you’ve been thinking about. Print out your favorite quote of the day and stick it on your computer, bathroom mirror, car dash, shower, etc.

11. PICK YOUR ADDICTION
Develop only the habits that you want your children or loved ones to inherit. Love, prayer, forgiveness, acceptance, laughter, physical fitness, optimism, etc are just a few of the more inspiring ones.. Most people have one kind of addiction or another, so consciously choose a good one.

12. GET COMMITTED
It is far easier, though much less ‘normal,’ to commit to the good stuff as it is to the ‘bad.’ If you’ve ever spent more than five minutes regretting any part of your life, then you know what I mean. There is nothing that will raise your self-esteem faster than doing something that you said you’d do. So commit yourself to your self-actualization. Then start again tomorrow at #1.

  1. Hi there Nancy,

Those are great suggestions to get inspired. Gosh, I can’t imagine someone actually needing help in that area but I’ve never been among the “norm”.

I love number three and although I don’t have it in writing, it is what I do each and every day so I’m living my mission. Gosh, I so love that too.

You’ve really given us some food for thought here so I want to thank you. What a great list.

Thanks for the chats on Twitter and you have a glorious evening okay!

    ~Adrienne

Thanks so much for your reply. Some of these 12 tips may seem obvious, however there’s not a single one of us who, at some point in our lives, doesn’t forget who we are. Keep on contributing- the world needs you to give YOUR best and highest contribution!!!! Best! Nancy
