Prefer to listen?
This is Zazu. He’s one of three new-born green-cheeked conures (small parrots) that we recently adopted.
Zazu is only 5 weeks old and has already taught me a ton about how to realize potential. (I’ve never hand fed an animal before and am amazed at how much I learn in the 10 minutes it takes me.)
Every day I watch these 2 oz. creatures evolve. Every day they do something they couldn’t do the day before, or the hour before or, even, the minute before. All three of them were born to the same parents, all within 4 days of one another. Yet each has his/her own distinct personality, talent and habits. Each one has unique potential.
I’m amazed at how their potential unfolds. They don’t read an owner’s manual. They don’t look to their friends, family or managers for direction. They just become themselves. It’s in their DNA so, of course, they literally can’t help themselves.
Neither can YOU. Within your DNA is your greatest possibility; your potential, your unique and divine self, your truth.
So what makes us different than Zazu and his siblings? Why do we struggle with unleashing our potential? How do we stand in the way of our own natural evolution? What can we do easily, effortlessly and eagerly to become more of who we were meant to be?
In a sentence: the only difference between the animal kingdom and us humans is that we’re smarter. This is counter-intuitive, isn’t it? We actually talk ourselves out of our greatness. We rationalize. We use logic. We think ourselves to creative death. And then we complain that we don’t get what we want.
Want to be more like Zazu? Want to naturally unfold? Want life to be easier? Want to turn your potential into something you can share with the world?
Then get out of the way.
- Quit throwing obstacles in your way.
- Stop thinking of reasons why you can’t have what you want.
- Listen to your heart and then your head.
- Hang out with a flock that makes you feel great about yourself
Get out of your own way.
- Focus on your strengths
- Celebrate everything unique about you (where is written that you can’t order your dinner exactly the way you want it?)
- Do what you love 80% of the time
- Love yourself as you do your child
- Forgive. Forgive. Forgive. (start with yourself)
Become who you were meant to be. Become who you were meant to be. Become who you were meant to be. Become who you were meant to be. Become who you were meant to be.
